seriously why do people who went 2 school in 1966 think the world changes everywhere except at the school they were at 45yeas ago. wake up oldies. teachers are powerless or dont care to stop voilence, sex pressure or harrasment. Please dont tell me about BHS,I'm living it everyday and although its not too bad for me because i have family in the cool crew, if your on ya own its hard, kids dont care what teachers say, its not 1966 and the threats of detention, suspension just dont matter, only the cool kids opinion matters
Most upset with Bowral High

I'm reading all the reviews above about how wonderful Bowral High is as a school, but to be totally honest with you I was not very impressed.
My son who started at Bowral High last year 2010 in year 7, was in the top year 7 class, he who made fantastic grades in primary school struggled to get the help he needed last year and his grades suffered for it.
He was also a victim of bullying which resulted in hospitalisation and I felt the school did not do enough to look into and deal with the matter. My son also had his school bag completely stolen and lost everything, and when I rang the school about this matter the deputy principal did nothing to help.
I have now had to look elsewhere for a school for my son to go to, which I am limited to in the public school sector as the Southern Highlands are over flowing with Private schools, and the area does not warrant another public school, so I will be sending my son to a private one.
I really hope for all further Bowral High school students that may run into bullying problems that the school does more to help you then they did for my son.
Spelling
Posted by A Recent Ex-Student at Thursday 29 July 2010
Really, it is as Anon. has said - spelling is a primary school issue... however the English department at the school does endeavour to teach it's students proper grammar and spelling. I've sat through enough of these classes to know this... my own grammar and spelling are, in part, owed to most of these boring but useful lessons (Thank you Masters, Cahill and Colquhoun). Pleas note that most Year 7 students come from primary schools having long forgotten the grammatical lessons they were taught in year 3. All things considered, there are a few teachers at the school who could stand to take a 'refresher' course in basic English skills (let's not name names).
The school actually offers a lot of courses that other schools in the area (i.e.: Oxley, Chevalier, et cetera) do not offer, and our Performing Arts and Science departments are second to none despite their tight budgeting restrictions.
If you really want to know what the school is like, ask a student!

My daughter goes to BHS and has been for the last three years. i am very impressed with the school overall in that they know your child when you attend the parent teacher nights and they are willing to listen and accommodate you where possible.
My girl is very happy, she gets a lot of opportunities to participate in various activities such as charity runs, science competitions and environmental activities which I know will help her to grow into a well adjusted adult who know what goes on around her.
She also has many friend and is in a great group. no issues with bullying or peer pressure. I am so glad!!!
And by the way, she played in the (netball) Smiths Cup and helped the team WIN over goulburn Yeah!!!!
Well done BHS and keep the high standard.

To the lady not impressed by the spelling...
This is a primary school issue, these children are not taught the fundamentals properly thanks to a lot of experimentation by the Education Department over the last 20+ years. Too much emphasis is on sport & recreation, particularly since obesity has become such an issue, and not enough on English skills. What hope do these kids have if even their parents can't spell because they came through the same system? Oh, and of course it could just be typing errors as well. Don't judge, the school is fabulous compared to most public high schools. The kids come from a very large area and different socio-economic backgrounds, but they are good kids.

This is to anonymous about all the spelling mistakes. Our kids today spend alot of time sending text messages and talking in computer chat rooms. Oou will find that most of them will spell words in a short form when they are on the computer or sending messages. My year 9 daughter spells very well but when she sends me a text I sometimes take a few minutes to work out what she is saying as its all shortened. She does not attend Bowral high by the way.

I am looking to relocate to the Southern Highlands. In checking out various schools in the area on the internet, i was shocked at so many spelling mistakes made by students of this school in this comment review section. Not too impressed!!

Student from 1985 to 1990

Hi everyone, I use to go to Bowral high school. In now live in the central west of Nsw married to a primary school teacher with three children.
I started high school in the Jan 1985 to and left in the Nov 1990 were I completed my HSC, Bowral high was the best High school then and I believe that it is still the best high school in the southern highlands.
When I drive past the high school on the way to visiting my mother I tell my 3 children this is the high school that I went to.
The school was under gouing some changes when I was in year 12 with a new building block; I offen wonder what it would be like to walk the halls again.
To the students in year 7 and year 12 good luck and do your very best, you may thing the teachers are there to give you a hard time; may be but they are there to help you as well, they are human as well, ask them they will help.
This school was one of the finest schools in NSW keep it that way and with the smith cup kick goulburns ass we did so don't let us down.

Values and Respect
Posted by Lance Watling at Tuesday 03 March 2009
I embarked on a trade after finishing year 10 at Bowral High School in 1969. I have been successful at many unrelated fields since and can confidently turn my hand to any thing I wish and do it better than most, effortlessly climbing to leadership roles in every chosen field.
It was not so much academic ability, (I consider myself only average). What it was is that the teachers at Bowral High used their life skills to attract our awe and respect and we learnt true values and most importantly 'HOW TO THINK', not 'what to think' A massive difference. I would like to see less of 'what to' and much more 'HOW TO" in our education system today.
I applaud all our 'Life experienced' teachers who impacted my life at BOWRAL HIGH SCHOOL from 1966 to 1969. THANK YOU

As 2 Bowral high students, we feel we can go to our full potential with fine teachers of the school. I feel there are some 'slackers' at the schppl, but i mainly depends on how on the individual development.
we love bowral high!
