Accomodation

Disapointing - had to change rooms at first due to ours obviously not being cleaned properly. The rooms are due for a bit of maintenance and I didn't really think it was very good value for money.
Peaceful

Loved our stay rooms where comfortable with king beds and great views. Open fires at the bar and lounges to relax in added to a very pleasurable weekend.

A FANTASTIC GETAWAY

Our stay was just perfect. The staff were professional and it was a very relaxed atmosphere. There is nothing that we could fault them on. We will definitely be back.
Disappointing Stay
Posted by Elleni Easton at Monday 15 October 2007
We had a weekend stay with our children and were very disappointed with both the rooms and value for money. The rooms were very dark and old - needs a big face lift.
The staff in the Resturant need some inhouse training on whats on offer.
The pool was extremely dirty and is a big OH&S issue to deal with.

My Wife and I came to the Southern highlands for a romantic getaway and thats exactly what we found at Briars. It was peaceful, relaxing with great King Beds and beautiful lake views. Breakfast was incredible and all staff were kind & friendly. When we checked out we couldnt help but to make another reservation.

Do not stay at Berida Manor, stay here! Great rooms with a beautiful outlook, everything you need supplied and a great breakfast. Fantastic value for money!
Wedding

My husband and I held our wedding at the Briars back in 2004 and along with our families were extremely impressed with the venue, the staff and accommodation. Our wedding ceremony and reception ran smoothly, and the families had such a great time. The event manager was extremely helpful and the staff were professional. We recommend The Briars to everyone.
Be Aware
Posted by Patrick Meclelen at Tuesday 19 August 2008
Stay at the Briars if you like but be aware that this is not a comfortable country hotel. It lacks atmosphere, has no nice gardens to relax in, the rooms are old and tired, and the restaurant is overpriced and simple. Maybe a cheap midweek 1 night stopover on your way to Canberra at best but dont expect any luxury.
Dont do it

I agree with the guy above. The place is a dive.
Pleasant but over-rated

We have stayed at this establishment before - and our current visit reinforced our thoughts from previous stays - it is a pleasant venue with a peaceful outlook but really looking a little sad now - definitely not a 4 star establishment - rooms are comfortable and have a lovely outlook, but are really in need of a refurbishment - quite overpriced for the standard provided. Breakfast included in the tariff - but when we arrived 45 minutes before the conclusion of breakfast, there was no orange juice left and limited hot food left - it needed replenishing . . . whilst it is a lovely location, I think it is trading on its reputation and is quite overrated.
Why the nasty reviews?

I was travelling to bowral and stumbled across the Briars. I decided to read through the reviews and decided that even though there were some bad ones i would go down and make up my own mind.
Upon arrival i was greeted by the friendly reception staff and was directed to my room. The rooms are exactly how they are advertised, im not sure how people expect anything more. The property is peaceful, has that country feel and the rooms are very clean! The only things i could fault them on was the lack of staff at the restaurant and the meals are a little overpriced. If you dont expect a bell boy and room service and you just want a room with friendly staff and a great breakfast....this is definately the right place.
I travel alot for work and have stayed in many places, i am your greatest critic, and i have decided to give it the thumbs up and will be back!!!!!
Disappointing dining experience
Posted by Anonymous User at Thursday 26 February 2009
We were very disappointed with Briars recently. They have dropped their standards since change of management.
The child's roast of the day was simply pork thrown onto a plate. There was the salad bar available, however, there was nothing of interest to a young child. We thought the meal could have included some roast vegetables, mashed potato or chips for the $12.00 price.
Bread rolls used to be provided with the salad bar. Now there are no bread rolls, only damper which could be purchased separately.
The portions of the beer battered fish and chips were much smaller than usual and even the plate was much smaller. It appeared that the meal was deliberately served on a smaller plate in order to give the impression that the meal size had not been reduced. The price of the meal remained the same price.
Absolutely Fabulous

My son and his wife invited us to spend some time at The Briars Country Lodge as my daughter in law was working in Bowral the next day we only stayed over night.
Check-in was friendly and efficient. We were assigned a room and given direction to the room, also being offered a selection of newspapers for delivery the following morning. It was a cold day, the room was very warm and comfortable and it was easy to forget the bleak weather outside.
The room comprised an entrance vestibule, a decent sized bathroom and a split-level bedroom which looked out over a lake. The room was clean and the bed was comfortable, with a telephone on the bedside table and a television with pay/cable TV in a convenient location. There was a stocked mini-bar and tea/coffee facilities.
Our son and wife arrived shortly after us and were in the room next door. They came in and we had coffee and bikkies and whiled away the afternoon by feeding the ducks and friendly maggies outside our door.
That evening we went to the Restaurant/Bar which was only a short stroll away and we had a delicious meal and drinks. There is an indoor grill where you can 'cook your own' steak or chicken for dinner. The restaurant also has conventional western meals for those not wanting to participate in cooking. (Which we had).
The 'Cook your Own' steak seems to be good for stimulating conversation when groups dine together. The meal was delicious. The bar area has several open fires which provide welcome warmth in the Moss Vale / Bowral winter.
From what we were told the charge of rooms are less than half that of some nearby resorts. We have no criticism whatsoever and enjoyed the stay immensely.
Overall I would highly recommend the Briars as a great place to stay in the Southern Highlands, very comfortable and well located (easy to find) between Moss Vale and Bowral.
