Gilberts Mittagong - very disappointed!

On Friday last week I stopped at this cafe (as it has been favorite of mine) and had breakfast. The food was lovely, the ambiance was lovely and that unfortunately is where it seemed to stop. I was there about 10am and enjoyed breakfast and the morning papers - unfortunately I then went to go to the amenities - slipped on the floor and fell quite badly. Thankfully some of the customers came to my assistance - I had to lay on the floor for some minutes before being able to get back to my feet and was aided to a chair where upon I had to remain seated (with my head resting on the wall) for a further 10 minutes before being able to stumble to the amenities. During this whole period I was assisted by customers of the store - it was obvious to everybody there that I had hurt myself yet at no time was I shown any concern by cafe staff. Correction - a young girl who was serving behind the counter did come and ask if I needed some water -I was rather incoherent at the time and unable to answer - so she left. I feel very let down by the cafe staff and feel that they acted in a completely unethical/uncaring manner - I am not sure if they felt that by providing any form of assistance they would be admitting liability. I would never have asked for this even though the flooring is completely unsafe -rugs and varnished concrete - but now feel that I want to let people know that if this is how they treat their customers I for one would not return. I alone would not have posted this review but it was one of the customers who provided the assistance that suggested that I do so. I was feeling very letdown by what happened and he stated that he was appalled by the lack of concern/assistance shown by staff at Gilberts Cafe. I spent the entire weekend following breakfast on Friday laid up and am now left with strained muscles and tendons in my right leg. One can only hope that this was a one off occurrence and normally agreated concern is show to customers. I sincerely hope this is the case.

I am a regular at Gilbert's. the food is excellent, the service is first class. Well done! this cafe is a credit to the Highlands.
