One of the Highlands Best

Posted by Russell at Thursday 15 December 2011

I have eaten at Piasevolis and the owner's former restaurant (Wild Pizza)on numerous occasions and have never ever been disappointed with the quality of the food and I love the originality of the chef's interpretations of what pizzas should be.

I have taken large groups of friends (20+)and family as well as work collegues and associates.

I have never heard a complaint about the food or the service.

I have lived in the Highlands for 37 years and regard this establishment as one of my all time favourites.

It really is worth a visit.

Pinch of Salt Required

Posted by Anonymous User at Wednesday 09 March 2011

I am a little mystified by the review left 21/12 and would probably take this with a pinch of salt.

Firstly most normal people order what is on the menu - more so from a place that prides itself on various interpretations. I think it's disrespectful and yes do not expect a great deal of warmth from the chef.

Secondly I don't think I have known ANYONE in my life to take umbrage on the way a menu is laid out. How bizarre.

I don't profess to be an expert, but being of Italian Descent I can definitely say that Pizza e Birra (a 'recommendation' from the reviewer being the Surry Hills establishment that 'educated' him) is not taken seriously at all in our community as an authentic Italian experience. I would put this in the bottom 10% of good Pizza establishments. La Disfida in Haberfield is ok however.

Finally I think it is plain malicious to 'hope' any business goes bust and close their doors. Just don't go back mate and move on.

Ironically I have not been there - I will be going this Saturday and a constructive review will follow.

Sorry to disappoint

Posted by Ben at Thursday 03 March 2011

Im sorry to disappoint the last respondent but my review was not as a competitor, just a discerning diner. Im a mining engineer not a chef or restaurant owner.

Can I suggest the proponents of Piasevoli's on their next visits to the big smoke, and if they are interested in trying the best pizza in Sydney, to try one or all of the following:

La Disfida - Haberfield

Pizza e Birra - Surry Hills - my favorite

Pizza Mario -Surry Hills

I have tried all three, and (without sounding pretentious or arrogant as that is not my intention) they educated me as to what real pizza should taste like. Sure we cannot have these sort of pizzarias in the southern highlands, but I do think we should aspire to one day! Pizza in the Mist is still the best in the highlands..for my taste anyways.

Maybe thats where I differ from the other reviews, I seek an authentic style of pizza with minimilist, traditional, and high quality toppings. A marinara mix or highly processed salami, or BBQ sauce, or cabanossi just isnt my cup of tea.

It could be the quality of the flour in the base, the heat of the oven, the home made salami or the use of good quality mozzarella that make it special for me. I saw none of these qualities at Piasevolis, and the service/arrogance of the chef were enough for me to warn my circle of friends to give it a wide berth.

We are blessed with a quality of good restaurants in the highlands, with new additions like Etcetera Trattoria in Bowral, the much awaited Biota and Josh's in Berrima. I was so shocked by the performance of Piasevoli's on the night I swore never to go back. Dining experiences are personal things, maybe I should give it another go, then again, maybe not..when there is other choices. I did go twice in reality.

Thanks to those who have followed up my initial post, despite my not agreeing 100% with them. Its a great thing to have sites like this.

Yummiest Pizzas

Posted by Anonymous User at Monday 28 February 2011

The first comment above is ridiculous and please don't base your opinions on it. I have been eating on a weekly basis at Wild Pizza Pit and now Piasevolis and LOVE their pizzas. If you want standard italian pizzas like plain pepperoni then go somewhere else that makes them. This is a gourmet pizza bar and the pizzas are delicious!

Meat Lovers with Attitude is one of the best pizzas I have had - can't get enough of it.

Fantastic pizza

Great pizza. Try the meatlovers with attitude.

This is a pizza place don't go expecting a full menu of other dishes.

Suspect the review from Dec 2010 is a fake one from competition.

I went with a table of 5. The restaurant was not overly busy but the waitresses seemed to be struggling. The wait for the food was worthwile. I loved my boscaila, my partner loved the pollo delicious and everyone else loved their meals as well. Overall the service could be better i would say 6/10 but the food made up for it.

Loved it, great pizzas

This is not your basic pizza restaurant and never has been. I had been many times when it was the Wild Pizza Pit across the road and you know to expect gourmet pizza, not your every day basic Hawaiian or pepperoni pizzas. My favourites would be the Roasted Vegetable pizza or the Pollo Delicious. YUM! Desserts are amazing here too.

I used to think it was often quite noisy at the Pizza Pit but now the new restaurant has gorgeous decor and has a new feel to it. Congratulations on the upgrade, there's much more room and with the cocktail bar upstairs Im sure you'll get new clientele.

I feel very sorry for the other review that is on this site as they were obviously expecting something different to what this restaurant offers. They must have had a bad experience at a very nice restaurant. I have always had happy cheery service here which is exactly what I got when I was there last week and I would be very happy to recommend this restaurant to my friends.

Just a simple Pizza Please!

Posted by Ben at Tuesday 21 December 2010

Im not quite sure where the chef learned his Pizza making skills or his manners but both are sadly in the domain of some of the worst I have ever encountered, anywhere in the world. This rebadging of the Wild Pizza Pit as Piasevoli's Restaurant has done little to improve

the pizza topping quality, presentation, taste or cooking skills of the kitchen - let me give you some examples.

1. When I first went to the Wild Pizza pit, I asked for a Pepperoni pizza, it wasnt on the menu, and was deemed by the waitress as a "special order", she had to ask the chef.

I recall him shooting me a filthy look at the time, but he made the pizza. Sorry I dont like Sweet Potato, Nachos, Curry, or any of the other bizzare toppings he lists on my pizza. Plain and simple, traditional even is the go. Most establishments would offer these sort of Pizzas....even in Lithgow, Walgett, Lightening ridge....

2. My last experience was even worse. I came in the back door past the pizza chefs and said a GDay as I walked past, nothing, no response, not a polite greeting to be heard. Next I hear some mumbling behind me about "move your chair", by the same Pirate attired arrogant chef, apparently as my seating (very crowded) was blocking the passage of punters past our table. Not an "excuse me sir, could you just squeeze in a little" just a blunt remark and a shove of my chair.. Wow..this place is setting new bounds of a culinary nightmate and we havent even eaten yet.

3. We ordered a pizza with salami and italian sausage, I cant recall the name, all the names are kooky. The menu is unreadable in its layout is very amateurish.

The Pizza comes, undercooked, soogy based, and with a mish mash of awkward careless toppings. The sausages look like small doggy dunnits. I couldnt believe it.Above all it just screams careless unprofessional cooking. They have a great big wood oven, and online these days you can even read how to use it!

Then they stuffed the bill up and overcharged us by $200!

This place is horrible, in fact its so bad as to deserve the worst restaurant in the highlands award. I have lived here 37 years.

In our party of 4, everyone thought it was disgusting.

Pizza is best sourced from "Pizza in the Mist", Wildfire Pizza (Bargo) Vin Santo, The Bowral, or the Colesseum, in that order, unless you prefer this chefs arrogant, rude, confused interpretation.

I can only hope the district votes with its feet and the doors close.
