Great food - no disappointments ever

We eat here regularly and there is never a disappointment. The food is obviously authentic and is lovingly prepared. Great family operation.

Great food

My husband and I recenty ate at Toshis and were plesantly surprised at the high quality of the food. We had a great meal that compared favourably with the best that Sydney has to offer. Service was very good as well- an all round great night out. Much better food than when it was at the Port O Call . Thanks, Sharon

wonderful evening

i recentley dined at toshis and have always been a bit sceptical about these kinds of places (although i love japanese food) as i am hopless with reading the menus and am always worried about what i am ordering as i dont quiet understand the language. But the staff where excellent. the young man who served us explained different dishes to us and what they intailed (very good knowledge of the menu) and he didnt make us feel silly for asking either. he also suggested some lovelly things for us to try. it was a beautifully layed out dining area and i cant wait to go back again. thanks for the great night toshis

What a jewel Toshi's Japanese Restaurant is. From the welcome on arrival from courteous, friendly staff on to the ambience of the decor and the outstanding quality of the delicious cuisine it is a must to dine at.

ETERNALLY AWESOME

Toshi has been feeding me and my Hubby for over 20 years - we discovered the original restaurant in Mittagong when we were dating. It was really basic but the food and the service was always excellent. We have had literally hundreds of meals at Toshi's, and we have experienced evolution of this restaurant into a really fine establishment and I can say that even the worst night at Toshi's is better than most places I have been. This kind of dedication to food is very rare - to me, this is a magical place to enjoy a meal with family or friends.

Unfortunately no change since last time

Posted by Mark Atkins at Thursday 01 January 2009

Further to my comments on May 02 2007.....nothing has changed. The food is still great, and great value. We are certainly lucky to have Japanese food of this quality in the highlands. However,of the four floor staff working tonight, two seemed somewhat interested in our presence, and the other two indifferent. Since my original comment, I have eaten at the restaurant once in 2008, and had the pleasure of being served by Janette (sp?) who has always been fantastic since our first visit to the Bowral restaurant many years ago. Unfortunately she, os someone as welcoming was not there tonight. I say this simply in the hope, again, that perhaps some attention to the service side of the business would make a good restaurant great. I haven't totally given up........yet!

Toshi's - a great find

Posted by Tracey and John at Monday 08 December 2008

My husband and I were in the Southern Highlands on the weekend for his birthday and discovered Toshi's, and we were exceptionally pleased. The food was fabulous and the service was great. Most of all coming from Sydney the price was unbelievable, I was so shocked that I asked them to check the bill! But, it was right. We enjoyed it so much that we are going back for my birthday in a couple of weeks.

Toshi's, Mittagong

Posted by Amanda Spencer at Thursday 13 March 2008

We recently enjoyed a short break away from Sydney's Northern Beaches to Bowral. Whilst there we visited Toshi's in Mittagong. We thought it was fantastic!! Beautifully decked out in the traditional Japanese 'minimalist' design. The food tasted great & was exquisitley presented. Unlike other blogs I read re. this place, we could not fault the service. A+++

Better when it was in Bowral.

We were regulars when Toshi's was at the Port o Call in Bowral, and have been a number of times since it has moved to Mittagong. Unfortunately, the food is not quite as good now which must have something to do with the increased size of the restaurant. It's also quite pricey.

Japanese style foods review

Posted by Anonymous User at Sunday 28 October 2007

hello, i have been to many japanese stlye resturants all over the state, in which i have never come across a resturant as of Toshi's, the food is great there, i have been to japan on several counts, and the food is exaclty like it is over there. i was very happy with the service of both the floor staff as well as the friendly and loving kitchen staff, i look forward to eating there sometime soon, take care

Experience Japanese Cuisine

Posted by Rayner Rous at Sunday 12 August 2007

Die hard ,6 kid clan ,fan of Japanese cuisine has finely found a restaurant in the area where I will not have to travel to Sydney CBD. I can now go and enjoy Japanese weekly, without cooking it myself.Only one review on the website to govern if I book a table or not....I will..if you are in the Southern Highlands, serving Japanese and still viable as a business...your food should be awesome. I will ad another blog after eating there this coming Saturday...18th August 2007. Look for my reply , hopefully to admonish the only other review. Rayner.

Great food, not so great service

Posted by mark at Wednesday 02 May 2007

Since moving back to Mittagong, the food at Toshi's is as good or better than ever. It's also great to see the business obviously doing so well. However, I have noticed a considerable decline in the level of service, particularly the welcome and friendliness of some but not all of the floor staff since the move. Being totally ignored on arrival in favour of answering a phone call, and having interstate guests being pointed to our table, and told to "take your shoes off", was very dissapointing on a recent visit. While our family love the food, we feel very reluctant to return again, (we eat at this restaurant every six weeks on average). I have worked in the hospitality industry for the past 25 years, and feel very strongly that the "whole dining experience" is what attracts customers to a restaurant. Hopefully someone in this business will recognise this, and not jeapodise what has been and can still be a restaurant with a fantastic start to end experience.
