Raine & Horne was founded in Sydney in 1883 by Tom Raine and Joseph Mortimer Horne. The Raine family is still actively involved with the company and as such, Raine & Horne is Australia's oldest and largest family owned real estate agency.
Raine & Horne opened for business in Wentworth Court, Elizabeth Street, Sydney as "Land and Estate Agents", a job description which was all encompassing. At that time, a Land Agent did everything from residential and commercial sales to valuation and rent collection.
