Masonic Lodge
The Masonic lodge known as Jubilee Lodge which is a branch of Union Lodge that had been established in Berrima in 1863 was formed in Mittagong in 1887. On the 3rd of February 1887 the installation of officers took place in the Church of England schoolroom. The foundation headmaster was Wor. Bro H E Vaughan. The members met in March 1898 and decided to surrender the Lodges Charter to the Grand Lodge. In 1904 moves were made to re-establish the Lodge and on the 30th of January 1905 the Lodge Jubilee was re-opened in the Mittagong Town Hall when the original Charter was returned. The foundation stone of the present Temple was laid on the 22nd of November 1922 by the Grand Master and was opened on the 13th of November 1922. In 1960 additions were made to the temple.
Friendly Societies
The Protestant Alliance Friendly Society branch opened on the 14th of December 1874 and is still operating.
When the town was known as New Sheffield the Grand United Order of Oddfellows established a lodge.
On the 26th of January 1927 a branch of the Manchester Unity IOOF was opened.
